June 24, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Liz Ashton Roger Skillings President, Camosun College President & CEO, PacificSport Victoria Tel: (',250) 370-3409 Tel: (',250) 744-3583 Director of Sport Education Position Filled Camosun College today announced the successful candidate in their wide-ranging search for a Director of Sport Education – Dr. Peter Rehor. The Director of Sport Education is a new position for the College and will be integral to the Pacific Sport Institute initiative being jointly led by Camosun and PacificSport Victoria. “Dr. Rehor will bring an unparalleled passion and breadth and depth of experience to the position, and to this community and beyond, when he formally joins the College on August 2nd,” said Dr. Bob Priebe, VP Education & Support Services. Dr. Rehor is currently an Associate Professor and Program Director in Sport Science and Physical Activity at the University of Newcastle in Ourimbah, Australia. Prior to this current position, he taught at the University of Tasmania in Australia and at Montana State University in the U.S. in the areas of health, fitness, physical activity, health science, human development and wellness. His primary research activities have been based on the relationship between physical activity and health and wellness. His research is international in scope and he has published extensively. Peter’s leadership in sport, health and wellness spans three countries (',Australia, the United States and Canada) and includes a number of years early in his career on Vancouver Island as Coordinator of Health and Physical Education & Outdoor Education at School District #71 in Courtenay, BC. Peter has a distinguished academic background with a BA in Physical Education (',Sport Science) and a Masters of Physical Education (',Professional Studies), both from UBC, and a PhD in Curriculum Leadership/Behavioural Health & Wellness from the University of Georgia. He is the recipient of many awards including a Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Tasmania (',2000); an Inspiration Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (',1991); an Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Georgia (',1980); and an Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award from the Province of Ontario. His athletic accomplishments include competing and coaching at the junior national, national and master level in cross-country skiing and ski jumping and competing and coaching at the junior national and provincial levels in volleyball. In addition to also coaching triathletes, Dr. Rehor has placed in the top 20 overall in three out of seven Ironman International Triathlons and in excess of 50 Olympic distance events.
