Testing & Assessment

Our Testing & Assessment options can assist you in setting your goals and tracking your results. Our Exercise Physiology team can answer questions, assess your needs, set testing schedules, and suggest the best testing protocols for you. The PISE team will use your results to create a program design to ensure a safe and successful training experience.

Body Composition (height, weight, skin folds)
Measurement of skinfolds is an accurate way to assess the amount of subcutaneous fat on the body. Tracking these measurements over time is an effective way to determine if weight gain or loss is fat or fat free mass (muscle). This information will help keep you motivated by objectively assessing changes in your body composition.

Initial Session $45

Follow Up $35

VO2max
This test measures the rate that your muscles can utilize oxygen to produce aerobic energy and is the most accurate way to measure aerobic fitness. This test is beneficial to athletes involved in aerobic sports such as running, cycling, triathlon, and rowing so they can assess and target their physiological weaknesses. It is also valuable to people who are interested in assessing their current state of aerobic fitness.
$135
Lactate testing
Lactate is a byproduct of anaerobic energy production and a major contributor to fatigue during exercise. An incremental lactate test determines at which intensity lactate accumulates in your muscles. This is useful in targeting specific training zones to customize your training and maximize your training benefits. It is also used to track training progress.
$135
VO2max plus lactate combination test
This test utilizes both our metabolic analyzing system used in VO2max testing and lactate testing to specifically and accurately assess ventilatory and lactate thresholds.
$185
Wingate
This is a maximal test of the anaerobic system. It measures peakpower and the rate of power decrement. Athletes who typically utilize this test are hockey players, skiers, and cyclists.
$50
Functional Biomechanical Assessment
Your Biomechanical Assessment will be conducted by a physiotherapist or athletic therapist and will evaluate any body alignment, muscle imbalances, or injury issues.
$60
NHL Combine
This package is geared to those athletes who would like to experience the NHL entry draft fitness testing. This comprehensive assortment of tests includes a VO2max, Wingate, Body Composition, flexibility, strength, power and endurance testing.
$250
Resting Metabolic Rate
By understanding how many calories your body burns at rest, our nutritionist will be able to give you specific advice on dietary intake targets based on your individual needs. Whether you are trying to lose, maintain, or put on weight (muscle), this test will allow you to individualize your nutrition to help you meet your goals (1 Nutrition Consultation is included in the price).
$200
Submaximal Caloric Needs Assessment
From this test you will learn the rate at which you burn calories for a variety of different intensities. This information will help you and your trainer integrate specific knowledge about your caloric expenditure at specific heart rates and intensities. This integrated approach (Physiology, Nutrition, and Strength & Conditioning) will ensure that your training program is designed to help you meet your specific goals (1 Nutrition Consultation is included in the price).

$200

Comprehensive Metabolic Rate Combination Test
From this test you will learn the rate at which you burn calories for a variety of different intensities. This information will help you and your trainer integrate specific knowledge about your caloric expenditure at specific heart rates and intensities. This integrated approach (Physiology, Nutrition, and Strength & Conditioning) will ensure that your training program is designed to help you meet your specific goals (1 Nutrition Consultation is included in the price).

$250

Altitude Training
Acclimatization to altitude is an important element to competing at elevation. Prior exposure to altitude can help your body begin the adaptations which will lead to enhanced performance.

Initial Session $75
Follow Up $50

EVH Testing
This is an exercise induced asthma screening test. If you feel that you might suffer from this common condition, speak to your physician about taking this test.
$150
Sweat Sodium Analysis
Sweating is a normal and natural reaction to exercise and the primary means to cool our bodies during exercise. From this test we will determine your sweat rate as well as the sodium content of that sweat. By knowing your sweat rate and whether you are a salty sweater or not, you can tailor your hydration strategy to meet your individual needs. This knowledge will help optimize training quality, recovery, and performance as well as help you avoid hyponatremia and cramping.
$135
Sweat and Blood Sodium Analysis
In addition to the measurement of your sweat sodium concentration and sweat rate, this test will measure the changes to your blood sodium concentration before and after training, therefore allowing our experts to specifically and accurately understand the implications of your sweat losses on your individual physiology.
$200
Strength Qualities Profiling
This is an analysis designed specifically for athletes with an extensive strength training background. Strength qualities examined may include maximal strength, maximal rate of force development, initial rate of force development, stretch shortening cycle and strength endurance. The testing battery will depend on the athlete's sport but the tests will likely include a combination of barbell lifts and jumping exercises. Equipment used during the testing may include force plates, position transducers and jump mats. An extensive report analyzing the results and giving recommendations for training will be made given to the participant after the testing.
$200

Golf Specific Strength and Conditioning - Phase 1

Phase 1 focuses on improving mobility, flexibility, balance, proprioception, muscle activation, and stability. Prior to engaging in specific strength training protocols, it is important to identify muscular imbalances, weaknesses, and predispositions for biomechanical restrictions to correct movement. Engaging in strength/power training protocols too soon will only exacerbate poor movement patterns, thus creating a premature ceiling for potential gains. This phase will also ensure the body will be less susceptible to chronic and acute injuries due to improper body alignment and muscle activation patterns. Improvements in power may be seen simply due to increased mobility/flexibility (range of motion).

Wednesdays 6:30 - 7:30pm

February 10 - March 3

$150/session

Golf Specific Strength and Conditioning - Phase 2

Phase 2 training will build upon the foundations of mobility, stability, flexibility, balance and proprioception that were taught in Phase 1 by introducing external resistance to accelerate strength and power gains. Sessions will take place in the PISE Fitness Centre and will utilize equipment such as bands, cables, and free weights. Participants will be taught the correct way to train in order to maximize on course performance, while minimizing the risk for acute and chronic injury.
